who we are
More than 20 years ago, I took a leap of faith and left the corporate world to find work more in alignment with my heart. I left behind the security of stock options, benefits and a 401k and enrolled in beauty school.
I was hired by a salon that was the leader in the U.S. for French cutting and worked in Atlanta for 7 years. In search of a more balanced life, I quit and took off across the country on a road trip to OR. Along the way, I fell in love with the Rockie Mountains and stayed in Colorado for 5 years. Eventually, I landed in the beautiful Gorge where I unexpectedly found home.
I love my work. It keeps me in touch with my core values, connection and courage. I get to meet people from every walk of life and they enrich my world. Making someone feel good about how they look changes how they feel, which in turn changes how I feel.
Beauty inspires me. It is a wild thing that demands acceptance on its own merit. I see myself as a modern day healer, using beauty as a medium. I aim to help women embrace who they are with confidence. I’m grateful to have found a way to express my creativity in a way that gives back.
Now after 20 years in the industry and owner of a small business, my goal is to pass it on. My biggest priority is to provide the BEST work environment and elevate our industry standards. We have a European approach to work - provide top-quality service and enjoy a full life - and equally as rare, offer 401k. The skill I’m now learning to develop is that of servant leader - helping empower the next generation.
In my free time, you’ll find me mostly working on the business. Also spending time with my husband and 3 kids. I love hiking, yoga, cooking, pairing food and wine and exploring the Pacific Northwest.
WOW!! I am so happy to be doing hair in this beautiful town and this amazing salon! I am new to The Gorge, but not new to the industry. I have been doing hair for 20 years, and I still love my work so much! Grateful to have found Subi and her wonderful spirit.
I knew early on in my life that I wanted to do hair, so I started beauty school at the age of 17. After graduating, I completed the apprenticeship program at Roberts of Portland, one of the city’s top salons. I’ve attended many hair conferences as well as continued training to keep my skill set progressing and up-to-date with current trends. I love the work and the industry, but really, I have grown my career to touch more hearts than heads and I am grateful for that. I love people. I love connecting. I love the art of it. I would consider myself a Jack-of-all-Trades stylist, as I can give you any look your heart desires. My preference is more of a natural bombshell look. Think Victoria’s Secret model hair. That’s my favorite!
One of my favorite compliments from a client was: “It’s like I am walking around with your artwork on my head.” That one has always stuck with me. Your hair is something you wear more than any accessory, more so than a purse or a pair of jeans. It is an extension of who you are. A first impression really. I feel lucky to help my clients look and feel their best. My job truly makes me happy and brings me a wonderful sense of fulfillment.
When I am not behind the chair. You can find me loving on my husband and my young son, running with my dog, hiking, kayaking, camping, exploring nature, enjoying wine and creating a dance party whenever I can! Laughing and embracing life’s precious moments.
If I have learned anything in life... it’s to FOLLOW YOUR BLISS.
I can’t wait to see you in my chair.
For the last 13 years I have been focused on running two businesses while raising my 3 daughters. I’m very pleased with the success of the businesses, but I wasn’t passionate about them. What I really wanted was to be a hair artist. I spent my downtime following the latest hair styles, products and techniques and my daughters were my models for practice. It really was my joy.
I decided to take the leap and enrolled in the Portland Beauty School where I graduated with the highest honors. My instructor said that I was “a natural” and that my attention to detail is what made me stand out.
I am a nerdy scientist at heart and love that aspect of our industry. Mixing and achieving the right depth and texture of colors is a special craft and I revel in it. My creative side kicks in when clients want a new look and I am able to assess what will work best with their features and hair type to give them a style that is right for them.
I understand the frustration of the wrong cut or color. My focus is to listen and achieve your desired look. Hair has its own character, so I work very hard to assess what is the best way to work with it. I am super detail-oriented and a prolific note-taker. There will always be a record of your service. I love what I do and the culture at Subi Salon.
I am a Portland native and have lived in the Gorge for seven years. To me there is nothing better than ambling around the Gorge, picking flowers or identifying butterflies (even bugs or frogs) with my daughters.
I moved to The Gorge in 2017 so we could be closer to my husband’s job as a teacher at the Hood River High School.
I have loved all things beauty for as long as I can remember. Making my clients not only look, but most importantly feel amazing, brings me so much fulfillment.
My passion for the beauty industry made it impossible for me to pick just one modality. So I chose to become licensed in all three - Hairstylist, Esthetician and Makeup Artist.
As a hairstylist and makeup artist, I pay attention to detail with an eye that seeks perfection. Waxing and skin care is an equal passion of mine.
Whether it’s shaping a brow with precision, giving a pampering facial, or adding finishing touches with makeup, I’m in my happy place. I love doing it all.
And the artistry of wedding hair and makeup, of being a part of that special day, I light up every wedding season. It is so much fun and incredibly rewarding.
In my spare time, you can find me spending time with my daughter, doing anything crafty or submerged in my latest DIY.
I look forward to seeing you!
Beauty has always been a passion for me. It’s a way for me to uplift and elevate when things aren’t going well. A few well-placed curls makes me feel like I can take on the world.
Becoming a stylist has changed my life in so many ways. Being able to connect with others while making them feel beautiful is a unique and precious gift. I get to share the love I have with others through my art. And I have a profession that supports and values perfecting my art, honing my craft and learning new techniques.
I am thankful to this industry for giving a young, single mom a place to thrive and feel accepted. It has given me a career track that will continue to support my passion as well as my family.
The Gorge has been my home for 9 years. I completed my training at Gorge Academy of Cosmetology and am thrilled to be part of the talented team at Subi Salon.
I believe in the healing aspects of a facial, and strive to provide the most benefit from massage, and guidance towards skincare for my clients. The skin being the largest organ of our bodies reflects our inner health, and to approach it holistically and understand how our lifestyle and nutrition also affect our skin health. I’m trained and certified in oncology esthetics and am also a nutrition certified esthetician.
As a former professional dancer and model, I found my passion in skincare. I have a long history in skincare and makeup artistry, working personally with Dr Dennis Gross, Chanel and Orlane Paris. My short time living in Switzerland, and travels throughout Europe, developed a love and understanding of the healing benefits of European facials incorporating Swedish massage techniques.
I have two grown sons, one lives in Oregon, and the other in California. In my free time, I enjoy being in the local yoga studio, spending time in my garden growing organic vegetables, flowers, and herbs, and hiking. My love for cooking whole-food meals complements my joy of living as healthfully and sustainably as possible.
How I live: Keeping a balance between work and leisure while valuing time with family and friends. Always striving for kindness, gratitude, health, and vitality.
